EVAN P. DONOHUE. If The Kinks and Dr. Dog had a baby.
Been wanting to catch Evan perform solo for a while now (he is also in the band Diarrhea Planet), but it just hasn’t worked out. After the release of his latest full length solo album Stairway to Evan, I feel like I can safely say that I will change that. The album starts off with a sound similar to his hypothetical father, The Kinks but he blends sounds of old and new very nicely, much like that of his hypothetical mother, Dr. Dog.
THE WAR ON DRUGS. If Dire Straits and Kurt Vile had a baby.
Okay, so chances are you have already heard of The War On Drugs and listened to their previous 2011 release, Slave Ambient. While I appreciated the album, I wasn’t as crazy about it as much as a few of my music loving friends were. It didn’t grab me like their latest release, Lost In The Dream (March 2014) has. To me, the latter sounds as though they perfected their sound. Whereas their previous albums seem as though they were still experimenting and finding their sound. I know a few of my friends mentioned above may argue with me on this but Lost In The Dream is where its at.
