We here at The Venn Review love working together with other promoters of music here in the Nashville area. We’ve “diagramed” featured artists from East Nashville Underground, Neoteric Nashville, and now we have some reviews coming up of another entity that brings you the unconventional kinds of shows. House shows. Cause a Scene Music has been putting together some pretty fantastic line-ups in very intimate settings in and around Nashville for a while now. This review (and the one preceeding it) will feature artists that will be headling a FREE Cause A Scene’s house show this week. Wednesday, June 5th at 7pm. (Event Page)

This is what I love about teaming up with these other publications, blogs, and event organizers; I find out about MORE new music. I had not heard of Little Tybee before speaking with CAS regarding their line-up for Wednesday. This band masters the ambient folk genre. The sounds are spacey and organic all at once. If you like either of their parents music, you should definately take a moment give them a listen. OR better yet, make your way over to the FREE Cause a Scene House Show THIS Wednesday, June 5.

ALL THEM WITCHES. If Queens of the Stone Age and The Black Keys had a baby.

This is the first Neoteric Nashville band of the month feature. The Venn Review will be teaming up with the fine folks from NN to feature their band of the month artists.

All Them Witches have a blues(y) sound I couldn’t put my finger on. EARLY Black Keys come to mind. Some of the more rock-riffed songs reminded me of Queens of the Stone Age but they still have this groove unlike either of their “parents”. It was a tough one to pin down, for sure. Worth a listen. I look forward to checking them out live sometime soon.

Just stumbled across this band yesterday. I imediately thought of Beck as the Dad in this relationship. The Little Joy connection is for the frequent reverb and island feel that this album brings. Looking forward to giving these guys a few more listens, as there are some very catchy, single worthy songs on it.

I am just going to come out and say it the same way a friend of mine did (who worded it so very well). I am angry at anyone that knew about Phosphorescent and did not tell me about them. It’s bands like this that continue my overwelming search for good music. Just knowing that artist(s) like this can put out 5 albums before someone like me (who is constantly searching for new music) finds them/hears about them, makes me sick to my stomach. But alas, I guess it all comes around; I eventually found them.
